A Day in the Life...a Writer's Series.

Mondays mean back to business.
Started the set-up for my online course called Dream I.C.I ("ici" is French for "here") through https://teachable.com/" target="_blank">teachable.com. Read all the available tutorial materials and signed up for a webinar on the subject. Now, I need to put together an outline and break the course down into manageable chunks. Plus, I have to decide on what content I want to include and not.
The illustrators for https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_19?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=little+alien%27s+galactic+soda+pop+shop&sprefix=little+alien%27s+gala%2Caps%2C301&crid=4T9XLJHJETJ4" target="_blank">Little Alien's Galactic Soda Pop Shop surprise me today. (The ones I found on https://www.fiverr.com/" target="_blank">Fiverr.)They have already completed the two covers I needed done in French and Spanish. The work order gave them 20 days to complete but they got it done in about a week. That's what I call stellar performance. I reviewed their work and it's excellent. Now I can move on with uploading the books to https://www.createspace.com/" target="_blank">Createspace and await the proofs.
Packaged up https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_19?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=little+alien%27s+galactic+soda+pop+shop&sprefix=little+alien%27s+gala%2Caps%2C301&crid=4T9XLJHJETJ4" target="_blank">Little Alien's Galactic Soda Pop Shop (a signed copy) for the illustrators. I've never mailed anything to the Philippines before. But I'm sure the post office will be able to answer all my questions. Had to do a Google search to make sure I was writing the address on the envelope correctly. As their addresses are very LARGE.
Hit up the post office to get the package sent out. But what a bummer, their computer system was down. Guess I'll have to come back later.

Just because I'm a writer doesn't mean I write every single day. I mean, I probably should. But sometimes I focus my efforts on other things... related to writing, of course.
Had to fix my printer. What a pain. It kept telling me it was offline whenever I tried to print. But, when I went into the printer set-up it said it was ready. It took some fiddling and jumping around from screen to screen until... BAM! It finally worked. Small victory.
Started the set-up process for my new website, Dream I.C.I. It's an extension of my mentoring and coaching programs. A designated site. And it will tie in with the writing course I'm setting up on https://teachable.com/" target="_blank">teachable.com
Dream I.C.I is short for Dream Imagine Create Inspire. My motto. But 'ici' also means 'here' in French. So, it's the place to start building your writing dreams. Dream 'here'. Nice play on words, right?
But as I was setting up the website, I got a call from my bestie. She lives out of town so I don't see her much. She was hitting up the mall where I live so... I had to drop everything to see her. Advantage? (Other than seeing my bestie?) I mailed the copy of https://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_16?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&field-keywords=little+alien%27s+galactic+soda+pop+shop&sprefix=little+alien%27s+g%2Cdigital-text%2C234&crid=1DFROV7IYZ2WV" target="_blank">Little Alien's Galactic Soda Pop Shop to my illustrators. And I dropped in to speak with the store manager of Chapters/Indigo. They are going to consign my children's book and host a book signing. Super excited!
Not so excited when I got home and found my dog had eaten a pair of my shoes. Mad at dog... check. Sad about through the shoes in the garbage... check. ***sigh***
My daughter had cheer-leading practice and I took advantage of that time too. I did some research on outlining my writing course. I now have a firm grasp on what the course will include. And I found https://www.onlinedoctranslator.com/" target="_blank">onlinedoctranslator.com. It's a free site where you can upload your document and it will translate it in any language. And keep the formatting intact. Little Alien's Galactic Soda Pop Shop in French and Spanish. Here I come!
What other languages would be popular?

You dig out your pen in the middle of a shopping expedition and scribble away on a notepad.
You have your hand-written grocery list and you're scooting around the store when it hits you. Maybe it's that plot twist you've been stressing over... Or a brilliant character development... But you stop mid-aisle. The lady behind you almost rams you with her cart. She gives you the evil-eye as she skirts around you. But you could care less as you rummage through your hand bag for a pen and paper.

I think the slump might be over...
I immersed myself in volunteering today. Found myself in my daughter's school gymnasium with a bunch of other moms, sorting books.
Our school does a book swap twice a year. Usually I help out by collecting the books from classrooms. But this year I wanted to do something a little different. So, I signed up to sort all the books that came in. And wow! There were boxes and boxes to sort through.
I spent 2 hours of my day deciding what age categories each book fit into. Then re-boxed the books, set out tables and helped prepare for the book swap the following day.
It was interesting to see what others read at home. We had an over-whelming number of old Nancy Drew books come through. About 20 of them... from 1987. It's sad though. I know that these are amazing reads but I'm sure not a single student will pick one.
The table full of reference books I'm sure will interest my daughter. Can't wait to see what she brings home. Probably books about animals and sea life. (She's only 7 years old but has made her mind up about becoming a Marine Biologist.) And there better be at least one French selection (since she's in the French Immersion Program).
Helping out in these small ways sure has a big impact on my writing. It gives me the drive and motivation I need. Knowing there are still plenty of children that read books.
Remember to keep your children reading. Offer books that appeal to their interests, have conversations about what they've read. And challenge them... Ask your child to read something you read as a child. And have them give you feedback. It's fun, interactive and engaging.
Send me the names of some of your favorite childhood books. I'll read them with my daughter. And if they are a hit, I'll post a comment here (and give YOU a deep discount on purchasing products and services.)

Procrastination has gotten the better of me.
Does anyone have articles or reading material that might help me out of this funk?

You Know Your a Writer When...
Your Google search history is definitely NSFW and maybe a little illegal. (It’s all for research! I swear!)
A https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not_safe_for_work" target="_blank">Wiki search defines it as such: Not safe for work or NSFW is an Internet slang or shorthand tag used in email, videos, and on interactive discussion areas (such as Internet forums, blogs, or community websites) to mark URLs or hyperlinks which contain nudity, intense sexuality, profanity, violence/gore or other disturbing subject matter, which the viewer may not wish to be seen accessing in a public or formal environment including a workplace or school.
Makes you wonder what I've been working on, doesn't it?
What does your search history hold?

Friday writing... total "write-off". Had lunch (and wine) with a good friend. Enough said.

Most days start with a quick phone call to my mother. Sometimes she's uplifting, and other times she's a downer. But, I love talking to her no matter what. So, today I gave her my undivided attention for over an hour. And today she told me how proud she is of me. UPLIFTING!
Was about to get down to business when my little dog threw up all over a blanket left on the sofa. Gross.
Later, a knock at the door. Who could it be? The postman. And he delivered a package filled with my books. Little Alien's Galactic Soda Pop Shop. These are the one's I have available for purchases made through my website. Signed copies... So, get yours already.
But the delivery didn't come without a dilemma. The package... damaged. Two books... damaged. Ugh!
Good news, though. My illustrators have agreed to re-do the cover of https://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&field-keywords=Little+Alien%27s+Galactic+Soda+Pop+Shop" target="_blank">Little Alien's Galactic Soda Pop Shop. In French and Spanish. Just need to agree to the custom offer ($15 per image.) and send them documents.
And that is where the day has left me. I'm just about to compile a list of "You know you're a writer when..." for later use.
Do you have any ideas for "You know you're a writer when...?" I'll be featuring them on my weekend blog posts.

Start the day off right. That's what my daughter said to me this morning. And we started it off good... with a dance party in the car. I'm sure others around us were thinking we were nuts. But it was fun to move and groove at the stop lights. Song of choice? Can't Touch This by M.C. Hammer.
Took the dog to the vet as planned. And then it was down to business.
Translated https://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&field-keywords=Little+Alien%27s+Galactic+Soda+Pop+Shop" target="_blank">Little Alien's Galactic Soda Pop Shop in two languages. French and Spanish. Coming Soon! Did the initial set-up with https://www.createspace.com/" target="_blank">Createspace and have ISBN's in place.
But now I need the illustrators to do new covers with the correct language. Sent them a quick email through https://www.fiverr.com/" target="_blank">Fiverr. (Yes, I found my illustrators on https://www.fiverr.com/" target="_blank">Fiverr!) Now, I wait for their reply.
After hours of translating and a full headache in tow, I stop to play a quick game of Gin Rummy. When... I smell something burning. I have a poke around only to realize it's dinner in the crock pot. I forgot that I had put a ham in the crock pot! Easy fix-turn it down. Crisis averted.
Got a refund cheque in the mail. Excellent, now to book flights to Acapulco, Mexico in November. More travel writing is in my future. I like to end my work day with something good and up-lifting. Well, a trip will definitely do it!
What's your end of the day pick-me-up?
And maybe that 'start your day off right' music really did pay off today? How do you like to start your day off?

Ever wonder what a day in the life of a writer is like? Does it sound glamours to you? Well, it's not. Sure, I have freedom to write when and where I want. But it takes commitment, you need to have focus and find motivation on a daily basis.
That's why I've put together "A Day in the Life..." A daily blog series about, well, my life as a writer. All the good, bad and the ugly.
So, to start the blog off on the right foot, here's what my day has looked like so far.
7 am Start to the day. (This includes feeding the dog, getting daughter up for school, making breakfast and school lunch, showering... blah, blah, blah).
8 am Decide that my new Mercedes needs a wash before rolling into 'kiss and drop'. So hit the car wash on the way to school with 10 minutes to spare.
8:30 am Stop in at the bank to see if they've resolved an outstanding issue. Not yet, but got some questions answered.
9 am Stopped in at London Drugs looking for a particular battery for my cars key fob. Then I realize that it's the incorrect battery to begin with. So, I have to drive across town to the Mercedes service garage to get the correct one. But, I'm driving my husbands beat-up Dodge Ram that's in need of a bath.
9:30 am So, it's back to the car wash with a different vehicle. Then to the service shop. We all have a good laugh about the battery being completely wrong. (Not my fault, the original owner was trying to save a buck and rigged in the incorrect one.)
10 am A quick stop at a different bank for a cash withdrawal before heading home. And giving the beat-up Dodge back to my husband, clean. Your welcome.
10:15 am Because my husband has poor computer skills, help him send images to his tattoo artist. His appointment is for later this afternoon. Nothing like sending it in the nick of time.
11 am With my husband out the door, it's time to check all emails and social media accounts. While doing the laundry between. Oh, and eating lunch at my desk. (Trying not to getting spaghetti sauce on my white shirt.)
1 pm Snuggle the dog and procrastinate. What should I work on now?
1:30 pm Write the first blog post. But don't post it just yet.
2 pm Realize that I have to pick up my daughter in half hour. So, Pinterest time it is.
So, as you can see, some days are better than others when it comes to putting pen to paper. And my evening? Scrapped too. Got to hit up Costco since we are back from spring break and need to refill the refrigerator. My daughter has cheer-leading practice at 4:30 pm, dinner needs to get made, and the dog needs a bath (she smells funky).
Life-Won (I mean--one).
Plans for tomorrow, you ask? Market https://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&field-keywords=Little+Alien%27s+Galactic+Soda+Pop+Shop" target="_blank">Little Alien's Galactic Soda Pop Shop that went live last week. And edit some poetry for a new collection coming out soon. But the dog has her vet check and shots, so...
